David Wire was born in England in 1934 and arrived in Australia in 1966. In 1970 he was appointed lecturer in painting at Prahran Institute of Technology, Melbourne.
Sir Roland Penrose, judge of the 1970 Transfield Art Prize commended his work No Survivors, which makes use of a contemporary sculptural medium, cast resin. Wire’s work is represented in the Art Gallery of New South Wales and the National Gallery of Victoria.
